DAY 43 – Arnemland and Injalak Arts – Fri 31 Aug

During the dry season you can drive Cahills Crossing 2 hours before or after high tide.

As soon as we get to the otherside we see a Salty on the mud flats. This is an awsum entrance into arnemland.

You hit the red dirt corrugated road straight away. Immediately your ore struck by the rugged country and flood planes. Its beautiful.

We make the 30km trip to Gumbalanya in under an hour. This is a true aboriginal community.

I get a bit carried away shopping for amazing aboriginal art.

Then i get introduced to Graham one of the artists I just purchased a painting from. He shows me this technique and the billabong out the back he likes to paint.

The brushes are made from a reed.

He shows me the tradition paint made from red and yellow ochre and clay.

The local kids join us for lunch.

Tanya asks if the mangoes are ripe so we go look.

Jetts make so many friends were planning on comming back next week.

Then we head back to make the crossing at the right time.

and off to the art walk which is the official opening of the festival ….
