7.30. Am – Another slow start. Again, the wind was so bad we woke 20+ times. I made anti flap straps out of gafa tape which helped a bit but got destroyed at some stage of the night. We decide to explore Francios Peron national Park
9am – let the tyers down to 18psi while tanya makes a picnic lunch.
10.30am – we hit the park. Road is narrow with compleley soft sand so I keep the speed up above 50kms. We bypass all the turn offs and head straight to Skip Jack point.
11.30am – we arrive and the wind is up but cant keep the flies away. We head down a deck to the Skip Jack Point look out. Is a MASSIVE HIGHLIGHT. Looking out over the bay there are Manta Rays gliding around and Nervous Sharks. There is also a giant eagle ray and schools of fish. This is an amazing and majestic place. Something out of a movie. The drone struggles in the wind and I nearly crash land. Leo cant handle the flies so we move on to check out the Point.
Ive seen the sand at the fork in the road on the way in so I gun it around the corner. BOOM Were buried in soft sand. Before I get out to get the recovery gear I try reverse and cant believe it. SIMBA just crawls her way out of knee deep sand! Love this new 4 x 4.
12pm – Cape Peron would have been nice to chill out, swim and eat but we have left the head nets in the van and Leo will not cope with these flies so we eat in the car.
1pm – Gregories for a snorkel but the tide is super low and weve heard horror stories about stone fish and there is rock everywhere so we decide to check out big lagoon.
2pm – Big lagoon is deserted! A week ago it was full. The wind has blown everyone away. If we ever come back in May-July when it’s still and warm I’d stay here for sure. Safe swimming bay, inlet for boating and fishing, excellent camp kitchen and very tidy. The WA parks website doesn’t take bookings and doesnt state No generators but there is a sign as you arrive.
4pm – back at the caravan and the wind is already rocking the van. There is a gale predicted for tonight so I decide to collapse the shade walls and annex. In the high wind it wasn’t easy.
7.30pm – Uno flip with the kids before bed time then a movie night for the adults.
