7am is now our norm for waking up. We do the usual coffee and fruit cerial breakfast then start to plan our day. Is cold wet and windy so we decide to raod trip down to Augusta and tour the lighthouse.
On the way we stop at Hamelin Bay. Ive been told to come here and hand feed the sting rays but hadn’t made the connection until we’re on the beach. There are crowds of people and massive stingrays everywhere. Some poor lady got bowled by a wave and fell straight on top of a giant stingray. That and me giving it a man handel sent it away for a while. We realise the time is getting away and head for the lighthouse tour we booked for 12pm.
Augusta reminds me a bit of the start of our caravan tour in windy Warnambool. We get to the light house with a minute to spare. The tour guide describes the 7 meter hole dug by hand for the foundations filled with English concrete and 2metwr thick walls made from local lime stone to match the imported steel. Winds above 100kms are regular and anything above 150kms makes the light house sway. Only once has the light mechanism ever splashed mercury in the sway from high winds which was before wind readings could be measured.
This is the most south westerly point of Australia where the Indian Ocean collides with the southern ocean which creates some epic weather conditions.
We head to the Augusta pub to check out the view. Nice but no memorabilia.
Now it’s my turn to pop into a winery and i pick my favourite Leeuin Estate. The grounds are beautiful. There is a helicopter and kombi parked for high profile tour’s. The cellar door only tastes the art series and seriously aged vintages. I’m blown away have to burn a massive hole in my wallet! Happy daddy dayzzz!
Back at the van we have another MR marinated steak in wraps and kids watch another moonlight cinema.
