DAY 41 – Darwin to Jabaru – Wed 29 Aug

We had a great time in darwin. Weren’t to impressed with Lee Point caravan park. It’s more for retirees that are semi permanent doing the 3 month dry season. It was nice being close to the beach and out of town but I’d probably recommended the big4 caravan park at Howard springs for family’s.

We set up and go to see the town. Its eery. Most of the shops are shut and boarded up as the uranium mining has slowed down and the town lease is almost up.

Then we make contact with Justin O brien (charlies brother). He is the CEO of the Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation.
We catch up at the caravan park then he invites us over for dinner and an impromptu party.

I meet Justin’s wife Eva and her mum Elizabeth’s son Eric who’s been out hunting the local prize food Magpie Goose.

I offer to help prep and start plucking feathers.

Once the main feathers are gone you cut the wings off and make a brush out off the tip of a wing. Then burn off the bum fluff left under the main feathers and brush the singed hair off with the wing tip you’ve made.

Now it’s time to gutt them. Nothing is wasted. Heart liver and giblets are cleaned and cooked aswell.

Then butterfly them and straight on the coles. It’s the best bird I’ve ever had!.

Yum… thank you Eric.
