GRAMPIANS / CARAVAN WEEKEND
- We do a last minuet Hip Camp run to the Grampians (Wannon River Farm). The van weighs 3,650kg’s when fully of water (250ltrs), slightly over the 3,500kg max so i shed some. A truck throws a stone, and we crack the wind shield.
We arrive to a locked gate, nice and secure. We have the hole place to ourselves. It’s a paddock full of sheep with heaps of open space. There are 6 camp site all with massive fire pits. I put in a pre-order for wood on site #2 which has a view of the mountains. WERE IN HEAVEN! Leo and I get the fire roaring and the fire bug goes off and makes a mini fire as usual. This place is awesome.
Next morning I’m up early to the HUGO alarm (5:30am), moon is out. The boys and I go for a ride around the paddock. We go for a drive into the local town (Dunkeld). There is another Abortorium and a sawmill. We check that out and go for a walk at a near by track. It’s a bit longer than we expected so we don’t make it all the way to the lookout and turn back (2.4kms one way – not return). We get back and have lunch. The sun is out and its glorious. Then we hit the road to another nearby track (The Piccanny). This time we make it all the way to the lookout. WOW. Lamb rack for dunner to a beautiful sunset.
Bacon and pancakes with maple is becoming a standard CV breakfast again. We head into Halls Gap for an outdoor adventure abasing and rock climbing. Leo starts and is a natural (no fear). Then Jett goes 1 up. I have a crack and try jumping and free falling, its harder than I expected. You really have to just let go and fall. The we try climbing. Jett sends me up the 8/10 side for hardest climb. Wow I just make it. Then Jett has to go 1 up and does the 10/10 hardest straight up the sheer face. He makes it the little monkey. We ask the instructor what the big deal is in town? He looks at us like were idiots. Its only the biggest even on the Halls Gap Annual Calendared!
GRAMPIANS GREAT ESCAPE / MUSIC, FOOD, WINE & MORE FESTIVALE!
- Ok so we have really nailed it this weekend. Not only is it SUN SUN SUN it’s a great festival. I really like it. There is food and booze galore along with heaps of arts and crafts with endless music. We Cruz around shopping, eating and drinking. WOW. Id love to come back for this weekend next year. Apparently last year it was 6 degrees and raining. We so nailed it. On the way back we check out all the free camps nearby. Not bad but nowhere nears as good as out Hip Camp site 30mins away. Borough Huts Campground or Jimmy Creek Campground are possibilities. We head back to camp and have an epic fire with all our fresh produce. What a day!
